Best Excavators Get Even Better

The new Bobcat® G-Series excavators have more operating efficiency, more comfort and more durable components than the models they replaced.

“Continuing the Bobcat tradition of excellence in performance and value, the G-Series machines feature the latest in engine and systems technology,” says Tom Connor, excavator product specialist. “Depending on the model, these advances range from a more fuel efficient engine and dealer-installed enclosed cab to a contour-following floating blade and enhanced heating and air conditioning.”

The improved G-Series—distinguished by a more rounded cab/canopy profile and new graphics—replaces all the D-Series Bobcat excavator models except the 316 and the 442.

Here’s a closer look at how these advances will pay off for you.

Improved engine performance

In addition to meeting the new EPATier II emission requirements, the Kubota diesel engines have been upgraded from an indirect inject fuel system to a direct inject system. “That enables the new engines to run cooler, use fuel more efficiently and start easier in colder temperatures,” says Connor.

Lower engine maintenance costs

The 331 and larger G-Series models feature a single serpentine belt to drive the engine accessories—the alternator, water pump, fan and, if equipped, air conditioner compressor. “The serpentine belt, which is common in the automotive industry, lengthens service intervals and extends the life of the belt compared to a conventional V-belt,” reports Connor.

More cab choices

Similar in style to the Bobcat 430 and 435 excavators, the canopy or cab of G-Series excavators offer operators easy entry and exit. Unlike the D-Series excavators, a canopy-equipped G-Series excavator can be converted to an enclosed cab machine by your dealer. The new cab includes more glass in the left door and on the right side for excellent visibility. The front window is easier to open and close and to keep open.

The enclosed cab on G-Series 331 and larger models can also be equipped with an improved heating, ventilation and air conditioning system. “It gives you a wider range of temperature control, more air flow and allows you to more accurately direct air flow,” Connor says. “Also, you can mount radio speakers flush with the cab wall for a cleaner look.”

A floating blade

Ablade float feature is standard on G-Series 331 and larger models. It allows the blade to follow contours without digging into the surface. That’s handy when pushing or backdragging materials across a hard or finished surface. “Pushing the blade lever all the way forward provides minimal but constant down pressure on the blade,” Connor explains. “It’s nice for jobs such as filling ruts or track marks and for cleaning up around a stockpile of sand or dirt.”

Longer-lasting components

The G-Series machines are also designed to provide longer, more reliable service. This reflects features such as tighter tolerances on the pivot points at the base of the boom and on the boom swing cylinder. This reduces pin and bushing wear. The undercarriage track rollers are austempered, an improved hardening method that results in longer service life.

In addition, the G-Series 337, 341 and 435 models are equipped with an improved heavy-duty X-Change® attachment mounting system. It uses a thru-pin, instead of a spring-loaded latch, to secure attachments. This not only extends the service life of the X-Change system but simplifies mounting and removing attachments.
