Good Neighbors Help Reality TV Program Build New House

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

A makeover of a home for eight orphans that was featured on a reality TV program demonstrated the community-minded spirit of several owners and operators of Bobcat® equipment.

When the crew of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” planned a project in Livermore, Calif., concrete contractor Derek Moreno got a call from the project’s general contractor. Moreno, owner of M&M Partners in Livermore, donated an estimated $46,000 worth of crew and services to the program. The around-the-clock project, completed by professionals and community volunteers, involved demolishing and rebuilding a residence occupied by eight siblings aged 12 to 23 who were orphaned when their parents died just 16 days apart in 2003.

Moreno, a customer of Bobcat West, Martinez, Calif., brought four of his ten Bobcat machines to the jobsite—863 and 963 skid-steer loaders, a 337 excavator and a MT50 mini track loader.

Over several long workdays, Moreno’s crew used the Bobcat equipment for concrete demolition, loading debris into trucks, excavating a new swimming pool and doing landscape shaping and contouring.

Joe Shryock, Shryock Grading Co., Lathrop, Calif., donated 92 hours of labor, including serving as project manager for the outdoor portion of the makeover. He and his son, J. J., operated several pieces of Bobcat equipment, including a 341 excavator provided by Bobcat West.

Another Bobcat West customer, Dave Tardiff of Colonial Landscape Services in Livermore, donated services to the project and used a rented Bobcat 743 and his own 763. Debra Mara of Arrow Rentals in Livermore donated rental of equipment to the project, including a 753 loader.
