The Easy Way to Work in Hard-to-Work Places

The newest Bobcat® compact excavator is also the smallest. Weighing less than a ton, this easy-to-transport, rubber track unit can slip through narrow gates and doorways. That means you can use this ultra-compact machine to work quickly and efficiently where other motorized equipment can’t go and work much faster and easier than with shovels and wheelbarrows.

“The Bobcat 316 is ideal for rental stores catering to homeowners and for utility companies who want an alternative to hand labor when working in areas where access is extremely tight,” says Tom Connor, Bobcat product specialist. “However, despite its small size, this excavator offers the power, digging depth and other features needed to do meaningful work on small excavation and shallow trenching projects.”

Press the foot pedal with your heel and pull the backfill blade back and the track undercarriage retracts to just 27.6 in. to squeeze through narrow openings. Once you’re ready to dig, depress the foot pedal again and push the blade lever forward to expand the undercarriage to a width of 35.4 in. for maximum performance. Powered by a 9.9 hp diesel engine, the 316 offers a maximum digging depth of 5 ft., 1 in. and a choice of three trenching bucket widths—8, 12 and 16 in.

This new excavator is ideal for home additions, renovations and repairs, installation of irrigation lines or interior remodeling or repair projects. You don’t need a big rig to transport this machine, either. You can tow it on a trailer pulled by a small pickup truck.

The 316 offers many of the same features as its bigger brothers in the Bobcat family of excavators. That includes an independent boom swing for digging next to walls, multi-function hydraulics for smooth operation and fast cycle times and a control pedestal. The operator seat tips up for quick, easy access to engine and hydraulic system service points.
