Gives Contractor Two Machines in One
Mark Klein
Mark Klein was shopping for a telescopic forklift last year when he discovered the VersaHandler™ telescopic tool carrier (TTC). After a demonstration at Bobcat of Mandan (N.D.), the vicepresident of Dakota West Contracting abandoned the idea of buying the forklift in favor of a V623.
Offering 23 ft. of lifting height, 6,500 lb. of rated load capacity, plus the ability to switch easily between all-wheel, crab and front-wheel steering, the multi-purpose VersaHandler TTC is saving Klein’s crews time and effort on a variety of construction chores. The general contracting company, based in Bismarck, N.D., does new construction and remodeling on commercial projects.
“The V623 gives us two machines in one,” says Klein. “Besides working as a forklift, it gives us the bonus of another loader to use along with our Bobcat 743 skid-steer loader.”
Multi-Job Workhorse
One of the V623’s first assignments was to push over walls of a fire-damaged structure and load trucks with debris. The machine has also been used in constructing a new addition to a two-story nursing home. It moved lumber around the site, raised roofing materials and removed brick and other debris when an interior wall in the existing structure was demolished. The V623 was parked facing a doorway where workers could easily dump material into the large-capacity bucket. The machine then dumped the debris into trucks.
“For its size and power, the V623 is very maneuverable,” Klein says. “We had no trouble removing and loading debris when we were working in the alley behind the nursing home. It saved our crew a lot of time and labor.”
In addition to construction and demolition work, the V623, with its large capacity bucket, has also been used to make quick work of removing snow at construction sites. That’s where the enclosed cab—with heater and air conditioning—pays off, Klein notes.
“The VersaHandler TTC is very user-friendly,” he says. “Our operators had no trouble learning how to use it and they like the controls which quickly respond to their touch.
“We’ve been very pleased with our V623. It’s a quality piece of equipment in the Bobcat tradition.”
