Fewer Headaches Bring Greater Rewards
Tim Trimborn unleashed his abilities thanks to dependable Bobcat machines and attachments.
When Tim Trimborn turned his career in a new direction a decade ago, he wasn’t totally aware how changes in the construction business would impact him. He just knew he wanted fewer headaches.
Today, Trimborn is one of the hundreds of thousands who have been unleashed by Bobcat® equipment and become successful owner-operators. Trimborn does excavating and grading, along with other types of work, around Santa Fe, N.M., and he does it much easier with Bobcat machines and attachments.
“Buying Bobcat equipment was a good choice,” says Trimborn, the owner of Triple T Excavating. “It has allowed me to stay busy and productive throughout the year. And not have as many problems.”
Twenty years ago Trimborn began in business with his father and brother. They had a huge amount of larger equipment and worked mostly in very big subdivisions. Once they decided to go their separate ways, Trimborn had some decisions to make.
“Do I want to continue to worry about equipment costs?” he recalls asking himself. “Could I generate enough work to cover the overhead?”
Trimborn decided to go into business by himself, using smaller equipment. He didn’t realize it at the time, but large commercial projects were slowing down and residential work was increasing. His timing could not have been better.
Most of his current work involves new home construction. He relies on an S220 skid-steer loader and 430 Zero House Swing (ZHS) excavator. “The maneuverability and versatility of Bobcat equipment allows me to handle this type of work,” says Trimborn.
Looking back on 10 years of being on his own, Trimborn says he likes the freedom of operating his own business, and the fact that “Bobcat equipment has provided a good living for me and my family.”
When you have ambition, barriers come down. When you have Bobcat on your side, opportunities arise.
The Be Your Own Boss (BYOB) generation followed the invention of the skid-steer loader. Eager entrepreneurs quickly grasped the concept. “I can buy a loader, some attachments, a truck and a trailer, and — just like that — I’m in business for myself. What a great idea!”
BYOB worked for nearly everyone. Age was no barrier. Some started right out of high school; others worked for someone else and then went off on their own; still others retired from one career and began another. Location wasn’t a limitation either. The BYOB concept worked in big cities, sprawling suburbs, small towns and rural areas. It worked for men and women, native-born and new immigrants; the mechanically-inclined and those that weren’t: What they all had in common was a desire for independence, the willingness to work hard, an opportunity in the marketplace and a local Bobcat dealer.
Right from the start, the local Bobcat dealership became the one-stop shop for everything needed to go into business: equipment sales and attachment rental, financing and parts and service. That’s still the way it is today. Your local Bobcat dealership is the place to start when you realize it’s time to chase the BYOB dream.
