Four medium-sized Bobcat® skid-steer loaders are providing first-class service for Lewis Kelly Excavating, Ltd., Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia.

"For our type of projects-landscaping, excavating, water, sewer and disposal system installs, foundations, snow removal-these machines are perfect," says Brian Kelly, who owns the 50-year-old family business with his brother, Lewis, Jr. "Their size does not limit the type of work we need to do."

The company has a pair of S130 loaders, along with an S150 and 753 (same size as the S130), purchased from Bobcat Atlantic, Halifax. The S130 is a 46 hp, radius lift path machine with a rated operating capacity of 1,300 lb. The S150 is also a 46 hp unit, with a rated operating capacity of 1,500 lb.

Four Bobcat loaders deliver consistently good performance for Lewis Kelly Excavating.

Kelly says at times he is surprised at what his crews can accomplish with the loaders.

"We were cleaning up behind a house when we hit the buried stump of a big, old oak tree," he recalls. "Our Bobcat loaders were the only equipment that would fit in the confined space. We pushed the stump into a bucket, drove out with the stump scraping the sides of both houses and loaded it into our dump truck."

By owning attachments such as a vibratory roller, sweeper, hydraulic breaker and pallet forks, the uses for the loaders seem endless, says Kelly. "These machines become a lot more versatile with the Bobcat attachment lineup," he says. "The attachments allow us to take on a wide variety of work-from removing old driveways and building new ones to backfilling home additions to installing paver stones to sweeping sidewalks clear of snow-that keeps us busy throughout the year."

When asked what he likes best about his stable of Bobcat loaders, Kelly says "they are reasonably priced machines that deliver consistently good performance and make us money. You couldn't ask for anything better."
