Landscaper Keeps Promises
Bob Tunzi
Landscaper Bob Tunzi says he makes—and keeps—a lot of promises to his customers, thanks, in part, to a productive mini track loader.
"Most of my work is renovation," he says. "People trust me to tear up their yards and install new landscape features when I say I will. They have high expectations, and to meet them I need the right equipment."
More frequently the right equipment has been an MT55, says the owner of Tunzi and Sons, Crestwood, Ill.
"Full-size machines weren't allowing me to get into backyards," he says. "Even when I have access I find that using a mini track loader can really be efficient."
Tunzi, who began his landscaping career at age 33, after working as a meat cutter for a supermarket chain, checked out several mini rack loaders before purchasing an MT55 from Atlas Bobcat.
“I liked the Bobcat® unit better—wider tracks, the diesel engine and the ride-on platform were important advantages,” he says. “Plus, Bobcat has a great selection of attachments. The best by far.”
Tunzi owns a tiller, trencher, auger, pallet forks and a bucket for his MT55. He uses the tiller to add soil amendments to flower beds, the trencher for drainage work and the auger to install fence posts.
The MT55, with bucket and pallet forks, was a big time-and worksaver on a retaining wall project last winter, says Tunzi.
“The wall was as high as 12 ft. in some places,” he recalls. “Working in very sloppy conditions, we used the MT55 to bring in all the blocks and to fill in gravel behind the wall. We didn’t tear up the yard, avoided a lot of hand work and cut at least two days off the schedule.”
He points out that the MT55 very quickly gets material, such as gravel and mulch, to the person using it. “My employees seem to find the best way to make use of their equipment,” he says. “They keep finding new applications for the MT55 and that makes them more efficient and productive.”
