VersaHandler TTC Helps Agribusiness Increase Efficiency
Telescopic Complements Bobcat Skid-Steer Loaders on Construction Projects
For a quarter century, Claire Rauser has relied on Bobcat® skid-steer loaders to help make his business successful. When he added a VersaHandler® telescopic tool carrier (TTC) two years ago, efficiency on some jobs improved even more.
Rauser owns Superior, Inc., Kindred, N.D., a company that sells and installs grain storage facilities as well as grain drying and handling equipment. After 31 years in business he estimates he’s built more than 3,000 grain bins.
He purchased the VersaHandler TTC from Pfeifer Implement, Sioux Falls, S.D., when he was building a 40,000-square foot warehouse in nearby Beresford.
“I needed a machine to lift and move construction materials, and since I was very familiar with the reliability and durability of the Bobcat brand, the telescopic was the logical choice,” Rauser says. “Its lifting ability was the best available. The unit worked so well on that project I figured it could be productive on our regular jobsites.”
At a time when grain bins are becoming larger (Superior’s average size a decade ago was 12,000 bushels; today it’s 50,000 bushels), the VersaHandler machine was a welcome addition to the company’s equipment fleet.
Saves Time with Bobcat Attachments
“The machine plays an invaluable role in placing steel correctly for grain bin construction,” Rauser says. “The ability to put the steel in the most advantageous location is very important. That can reduce our time on the job by up to 25 percent. With the turnkey projects that we do, that type of savings is huge.
Unloading steel also has become easier with the arrival of the telescopic. With only one side open for unloading, the ability to reach across a truck with the Bobcat pallet fork attachment is critical for saving time and labor.”
The VersaHandler TTC also helps overcome bad weather. “When new bins are located in an area of the farm where rain can make it difficult to work, the TTC, with its three steering modes, allows us to keep working,” Rauser says.
