Disc Mulcher
Attachment

Disc Mulcher
Attachment

  • Cut trees up to 14 inches in diameter
  • Turns trees up to 6 inches in diameter into beds of mulch.
  • Four-point hardened-steel knives on the outer edge and planer knives throughout the underside pulverize trees and other dense material
  • Flywheel design stores kinetic energy to slice and shred through tough material
  • Four ways to mulch make the disc mulcher a versatile and effective land-clearing attachment

Features & Benefits

Top Tasks

Clear trees and brush for:

  • Utility line and right-of-way maintenance
  • Site preparation
  • Rural area and vegetation maintenance

How It Works

The disc mulcher functions like a flywheel, storing kinetic energy to slice through tough material and shred it into mulch. The stored energy minimizes the performance demands on your loader and helps reduce operating temperatures.

There are several techniques for operating the disc mulcher, making it a versatile and effective land-clearing attachment.

  • When felling trees, drive the left side of the disc into the trunk and use the push bar to tip the tree away from your loader.
  • For top-down mulching, use the bottom of the left side of the disc, and tilt back as you lower the mulcher on top of stumps and small trees to shred material to ground level.
  • To pull trees into the mulching chamber from the bottom up, drive the right side of the mulching disc straight into the trunk to make the cut. Then tilt the mulcher back, feeding the tree into the intake chute.
  • For backdragging, tilt the disc mulcher forward and work the material into the ground, leaving a clear surface as your machine moves back.

Required Components

The following components are required to operate this attachment and must be purchased separately:

Forestry Application Kit Is Required

Designed to help protect you and your investment in the toughest conditions, the forestry application kit must be installed on the loader to operate the disc mulcher attachment. The exclusive forestry door protects against flying debris and objects.

The Forestry Application Kit Includes:

  • Fire extinguisher: Mounted in the cab for quick access in an emergency.
  • Forestry door: The Bobcat ¾-inch laminated polycarbonate forestry door is required for operation of the disc mulcher. Emergency exit allows for removal of front door, if necessary.
  • Front and rear light guards: Ensures branches and debris won't break lights.
  • Hydraulic quick coupler guard: The guard, along with no exposed fittings on the hoses, helps protect the couplers, hoses and wire harness from falling trees and branches.
  • Level II FOPS (Meets ISO 3449): Protects operator and cab from falling trees and objects.
  • Lift cylinder debris shields (M-Series Only): Protects lift cylinders and reduces material buildup in the engine compartment.
  • Muffler guard: Protects tailpipe from damage and reduces material buildup in the engine compartment.
  • Polycarbonate top, rear and side windows: Adds operator protection and maximizes visibility (¼-inch or ½-inch polycarbonate).

Options & Accessories

  • Optional piston motor (60-inch model only): The optional piston motor increases disc rotation to 1,290 rpm at full speed for more productivity. The piston motor also reduces the time required to bring the disc to full speed, as well as the disc's recovery speed during mulching. The piston motor is only available with the 60-inch disc mulcher and can be used with high-flow hydraulics and super-flow hydraulics.
  • Optional chain guard: The disc mulcher's chain guard obstructs debris thrown toward the rear of the attachment.
  • Optional carbide teeth: Upgrade to optional carbide teeth for extended service life and enhanced performance. Carbide teeth are designed to withstand abrasion and extreme ground contact. They're ideal for use on rocky terrain and in operation conditions with repetitive ground contact.
