Compact Excavators: Redesigned Bobcat Engine

The Bobcat® engine in R2-Series compact excavators offers an efficient design that delivers the performance you need and also reduces and simplifies routine maintenance. An innovative new fuel system makes low fuel levels more forgiving for busy excavator operators. Cold-weather operation is improved and a variety of features make maintaining and servicing the excavator engine more convenient.

Features & Benefits

Fuel Filter On Bobcat Compact Excavator

Fuel Filter

A larger fuel filter on R2-Series excavators enables better system protection and longer filter life with more than double the media surface area. It has more holding capacity to capture impurities for longer intervals, greatly extending the life of the fuel filter. The filter is also easier to change and includes a clear water bowl for easy monitoring and a sensor to notify you when draining is needed. To simplify upkeep, the display lets you know when the filter needs to be serviced.

Lift Pump & Self-Priming System

The fuel pump includes a self-priming system that continuously forces air out of the low-pressure fuel system and back into the fuel tank, eliminating the need for a primer bulb. This makes it easier on excavator operators if the fuel tank runs empty or when changing the fuel filter. The pre-filter protects the lift pump from particles that can increase wear and degrade performance.

Quieter Operation

The engine generates lower noise levels so compact excavator operators and bystanders alike will enjoy a quieter environment.

Increased Engine Oil Service Interval

The recommended engine oil service interval has increased from 500 to 750 hours, giving you more uptime per oil change.

Fuel Filter Pressure Sensor

With the fuel filter pressure sensor, you’ll be alerted if the fuel filter is plugged or reaching the end of its service life, or if there is an issue with the low-pressure fuel system. An indicator on the display inside the cab alerts the operator. You and your staff can be more aware of service needs to protect equipment uptime.

Fuel Recirculation Valve

To keep your excavator running in frigid conditions, a fuel recirculation valve on R2-Series excavators returns warm fuel to the lift pump to reduce fuel gelling issues. It works better than an electric heater, greatly improving cold-weather performance.
