Machine Diagnostics & Fault Codes

The Bobcat Machine Diagnostics & Fault Codes search tool is designed to identify the type of fault code displayed by your Bobcat machinery and the next steps needed to resolve the diagnostic or fault code. To use this tool, follow these steps: 

Step 1: Enter the serial number of your Bobcat machine. If your serial number is unknown, this information can be found on the Bobcat equipment serial numbers & locations page. 

Step 2: Input the diagnostic code, also referred to as the fault code, from the machine's control panel.

Bobcat machine diagnostics and fault codes, also referred to as engine codes or error codes, are systems used to identify, monitor and report operational issues in Bobcat equipment. These systems use sensors and software to continuously check the machine's operational status. When a problem is detected, the system generates fault codes that identify the issue, making it easier for the operator or technician to restore the Bobcat machine to optimal operating condition.  

Each code indicates a specific error or warning, from minor maintenance needs to critical system failures. By understanding these codes operators and technicians can prevent damage to the machine with straightforward identification of the problem to minimize downtime and to maintain the machine’s operational performance, efficiency and owner longevity.

Navigating the PDF

Using the Fault Codes 

Once you have located the fault codes for your specific machine, use the accompanying descriptions and instructions to diagnose and address the issues by entering them in the machine diagnostics search tool, located at the top of the page.  

Bobcat fault codes are usually located on the machine's touchscreen, control display or instrument-panel, depending upon the type of machine and model. Their location was designed to provide operators immediate feedback to prevent damage to the machine. Either operators or technicians can quickly address issues, reducing downtime and maintaining operational efficiency and support. 

Here is a guide to locating error codes on some common models: 

R-Series Models

Depending upon the machine and model, it may be equipped with a touchscreen or standard (non-touch) display screen. To access the “service codes” on these models, complete the following: 

• Touch Display: Touch the screen and choose “service codes”  
• Standard Display: Use the jog shuttle (knob) to navigate and select “service codes” 

M2-Series Models

Depending upon the machine and model, it may be equipped with a deluxe panel or a standard instrumentation panel that features only gauges and a display. To access the “active warnings” on these models, complete the following: 

• Deluxe Panel: Use the jog shuttle (knob) to navigate and select “service codes” 
• Standard Instrumentation Panel: Press the information button to reach a screen that shows an open book symbol with a wrench overlay. This screen will show active error codes, and you can cycle through if there are multiple entries.

Other Bobcat Machine Models 

Not all Bobcat machines and models may have a touchscreen or standard display for warning lights and symbols. Instead, traditional instrumentation panels may display errors, issues or warnings. Please consult the operator guide of your machine’s make and model to understand what each light and symbol means.
