Colorado Concrete Company Stays Solid With Bobcat Machines

Published on November 14, 2024

  • Eric Niemann started Rocky Mountain Stonecrete in 2006 with rental Bobcat® equipment.
  • As time went on, he stuck with Bobcat machines and now owns two skid-steer loaders – an S590 and an S66 – two E35 excavators, an MT100, MT52 and various attachments.
  • He oversees a crew of eight, many of whom have been with him over a decade.
  • Eric’s sons have both been active in the business. His younger son currently works as part of his crew.

Eric Niemann and his team at Rocky Mountain Stonecrete take on jobs that scare other contractors. Their reputation for taking on challenging projects has grown since the company started nearly 20 years ago.

Eric Niemann started Rocky Mountain Stonecrete, a concrete business based in Parker, Colorado, back in 2006. His crew of eight almost feels like a family at this point. Most have been with him for almost a decade, some nearly two decades. And with one son who joins him on the jobsite and another in the Marines, he hopes the family business will continue on.

“We take on the hardest jobs that nobody else will even dare do,” Eric says, highlighting his company's willingness to push the limits. Currently, they are working on several high-profile projects, including nine Denver Public Schools and the restoration of a historic building in Central City.

From Rentals to a Full Fleet

Bobcat equipment has played an important role in Eric's success. He recalls how he used to rent machines before investing in his own fleet. He now owns two Bobcat skid-steer loaders – an S590 and an S66 – two E35 excavators, an MT100 mini track loader and an MT52 that he can’t seem to part with. They work their machines hard, too. Usually, Eric says, they will trade up every five years.

They lighten the workload. If I don’t have the right machine for the job, I’ll either buy it, rent it or borrow it – just as long as it’s Bobcat.

Downtime Is Not an Option

Eric's commitment to Bobcat equipment is rooted in the strong support he receives from the Bobcat of the Rockies team in Parker. He fondly remembers a time in 2013 when one of his machines broke down in the middle of a major project.

“It was a Saturday, and I was stuck,” Eric says. “I called Wayne at Bobcat, and he opened the shop just for me, letting me borrow the machine I needed to finish the job.”

That experience cemented Eric’s loyalty to Bobcat, knowing that their team would always have his back. Because for him, downtime just isn’t an option. And over the past 18 years, he hasn’t had any to speak of.

When it comes to being a reliable contractor, my machines have to work. No downtime, no matter what.

Looking to the Next Generation

Eric feels confident that Rocky Mountain Stonecrete can continue to take on Colorado's toughest jobs while growing as a business – and he can possibly pass it on to the next generation. His oldest son is currently serving in the Marines. His youngest son, Jamison, is only 18 years old, but has been showing up to jobsites since the company began.

“I started helping on some of the less intense jobs,” Jamison says. “As I've gotten older, I see the effort that it takes, and it makes me appreciate what my dad does.”

Eric is open about the fact that he wants his sons to take over the family business in the future. And they both have an interest in pushing the operation to new heights, having seen it grow for their whole lives. For now, however, there’s joy in the day-to-day time spent together.

“I love going to work with my sons every day,” Eric explains. “It’s good bonding time; we’re getting stuff done and we’re learning new skills to better our craft with every single job.”
